📜 Grimsby Town History
The club was founded in 1878 as Grimsby Pelham, with the name an homage to the family name of a prominent figure in the local area, the Earl of Yarborough.
Grimsby joined the Football League in 1892 and earned promotion to the top flight 11 years later. They would return to that level in 1929, and their 5th-placed finish in the First Division in 1935 remains their highest-ever league position.
The Mariners were relegated in 1948 and have been chasing a return to the top flight ever since. In 1982 and 1998, they lifted the EFL Trophy.
