Rathaus is the city’s commercial centre, ideal for those who want to be a few minutes walk from the best high street and high end shops, restaurants, and bars. The historic square, Schillerplatz, is also located here.
Culture vultures should stay slightly north of Rathaus in Oberer Schlossgarten, where many of the city’s landmarks, including the modern centre, Schlossplatz, are located. This neighbourhood is also next to the city’s central train station, which makes it easy to travel to other parts of Germany.
Bad Cannstatt, on the northern tip of Stuttgart city centre, is the dream neighbourhood for football fans and car enthusiasts as the Mercedes-Benz Museum and Arena, and the Porsche Museum are located here.
Feuersee is just a few minutes walk from the bustling Rathaus, but it has a much more laid back hipster vibe. Its streets are lined with cool cafes, global eateries, and alternative bars.
Although it’s slightly quieter and more residential, Stuttgart West is in fact considered the city’s coolest neighbourhood. Known for its independent theatres, shops, bars, and cafes, it offers an alternative insight into Stuttgart.
A metro service runs from Stuttgart city centre into its outer neighbourhoods, making it easy to explore the city no matter where you sleep.
