📜 Fleetwood Town History
Although the current iteration of the club was actually founded in 1997, Fleetwood Town's history has had 3 previous incarnations stretching back to 1908.
The original club, Fleetwood FC, played in the Lancashire Combination league before folding in 1928 amid financial difficulties. That same year, a club known as Fleetwood Windsor Villa FC began operating, and they changed their name to Fleetwood FC just 3 years later.
In 1976 the team folded again, with many of the personnel re-establishing it – this time as Fleetwood Town – the following year, and the same happened again in 1996, with the club briefly known as Fleetwood Wanderers and Fleetwood Freeport but they reverted to the Town moniker in 2002.
The current iteration has been the most successful, with the club achieving promotion to the Football League for the first time in 2012 and then reaching League One just 2 years later.
