Fiji’s women’s rugby union team first played in 2006, and is known to play with the fast, exciting, ball-in-hand rugby for which the country is famous. The team has twice won the Oceania Women’s Rugby Championship, in 2016 and 2018.
The “Fijiana” qualified for its first ever World Cup at the end of 2019, by beating Samoa in a best-of-3 qualification play-off. Though they are not as experienced as some of their competitors, their regional championship acumen will hold them in good stead, and their physical and fun brand of rugby is sure to win over a few neutrals!
