Emma Raducanu is a Canadian-born British tennis player, and the only qualifier to win a singles Grand Slam title in the professional era.
📜 Emma Raducanu History
As a child, Raducanu played a wide range of sports, and first picked up a tennis racket aged 5. Despite turning professinal in 2018, Raducanu opted to consolidate her game at smaller tournaments, as well as balancing her tennis with her school studies.
Emma Raducanu truly came to the fore in 2021, when she became the youngest British woman in 19 years to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon. Only a couple of months later, at the US Open, Raducanu made history by winning the singles draw as a qualifier. Raducanu's victory is considered one of the greatest upsets in modern tennis, and was achieved without dropping a single set. As a result of her historic victory, Raducanu's ranking jumped more than 100 places, and her international profile was raised considerably.
Raducanu plays with an aggressive style, with many of her shots taken from the baseline. She is noted as having an excellent backhand, which she plays two-handed. She uses these shots, in conjunction with her strong serve, to push her opponents down the court, before hitting winners. Whilst Raducanu does favour offensive tennis, she is also a highly competent defensive player too, when required.
