DC United are a professional men's football team playing in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference.
History
The club was founded in 1994, making them one of MLS' inaugural franchises, and they enjoyed a great deal of success early on; they won 8 trophies between 1996 and 1999, including 3 MLS Cups, 2 Supporters' Shields, and the CONCACAF Champions' Cup.
Although sporadic success has followed in 2 decades since, United have struggled to maintain that level of dominance from MLS' early years.
The arrival of former Everton, Manchester United, and England star Wayne Rooney in 2018 elevated the club's global profile, and Rooney returned to manage the club in 2022.
