π D.C. Defenders History
The team was originally founded in 2018, and they participated in the first XFL games in 2020 when the league was led by Vince McMahon. The Defenders played for 5 weeks until league operations were shut down and all play suspended.
After the XFL was bought by Dwayne Johnson's Alpha Acquico, the Defenders were confirmed as a returning team for the 2023 season onwards, with Reggie Barlow newly on board as head coach. In 2024, the XFL merged with the USFL to become the UFL and the Defenders joined as a founding member.
