The Chilean men's rugby union team first played in 1936, a few months after the foundation of the Chilean Rugby Federation, in 1935. The inaugural match was against South American neighbours Argentina, the team that "Los Cóndores" have gone on to play against more than any other.
After a string of losses which started with that first match, Chile had to wait over a decade for their first test victory, which came in 1948 against Uruguay.
More recently, Chile have tested themselves against teams in North America, as well as South America, coming up against the USA and Canada on a combined 15 occasions. In 2022, Los Cóndores beat the USA in a Rugby World Cup play-off, securing a place in the event for the first time in the nation's history.
