Chicago Sky, also known simply as the Sky, are a professional women's basketball team based in Chicago, Illinois. They play in the Eastern Conference of the Women's National Basketball Association and their home venue is Gateway Center Arena. They are not affiliated with the NBA's Chicago Bulls.
Chicago Sky History
The Sky were founded in 2005 when the city of Chicago was awarded a new WNBA franchise.
Despite a significant improvement after a difficult first season β in which they finished bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 5-29 record β it was not until 2013 that the Sky reached the WNBA Playoffs for the first time.
The following year, they claimed the Eastern Conference title as they progressed to the WNBA Finals, where they were beaten by the Phoenix Mercury.
In 2021, they avenged that defeat to win the championship for the first time. Having finished 6th in the Eastern Conference that season with a 16-16 record, they became the lowest-seeded team and the first without a winning record to claim the WNBA Championship.
