📜 Cheltenham Town History
The Robins were founded in 1887 by local teacher Albert Close White, who returned to the town from studying in London having taken interest in the sport. For a long time Cheltenham were thought to have been founded in 1892, but recently discovered evidence showed White's role in the formation of the club.
Cheltenham spent many years as an amateur and then semi-professional side, before finally gaining entrance into the Football League in 1999, a year after they lifted the FA Trophy for the first time.
They have been regulars in the EFL ever since, save for a brief spell back in the National League for the 2015-16 season.
