Central Pulse play in the ANZ Premiership, the highest level of competitive netball in New Zealand. The Pulse are based in Wellington.
The team was founded in 2007 as an amalgamation of 2 existing teams from the newly defunct National Bank Cup, the Capital Shakers and Western Flyers. The Pulse were created to compete in the new trans-Tasman league, the ANZ Championship, which held its first season in 2008.
2016 saw the last season of the ANZ Championship, and from 2017 onwards the Australian and New Zealander teams competed separately in their own national league competitions. The Pulse became part of the ANZ Premiership, the new netball championship in New Zealand.
In the first 2 seasons of the ANZ Premiership, the Pulse reached the Grand Final but failed to win, losing to Southern Steel in both 2017 and 2018. They managed to go one step further in 2019, claiming their first ANZ Premiership title by defeating Northern Stars. In 2020, they reached their 4th consecutive Grand Final and won again, beating Tactix 43-31. The next season saw the Pulse fail to reach the final stages of the competition for the first time, as they finished 5th in the regular season.
The team plays most of their home games at the TSB Bank Arena.
