📜 Canberra Raiders History
The Canberra Raiders joined what was then the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) Premiership - a forerunner to the NRL - in March 1981, becoming one of the very first top-flight rugby league franchises based outside of the state. They continued to be a team of firsts, becoming inaugural finals representatives from outside of Sydney, and the first team from outside of the city to appear in a grand final.
In 1989, the Canberra Raiders became premiers for the first time - another first for a club from outside Sydney - defeating the Balmain Tigers 19-14 in one of the most famous finals ever, at the Sydney Football Stadium. They would go on to win the title again in 1990 and 1994. The Raiders would not appear in another grand final until 2019, when they lost to the Sydney Roosters.
The Raiders' traditional home colours are green, navy blue, and white.
