Cagliari Calcio - more commonly known simply as Cagliari - is an Italian professional football club based in Cagliari, Sardinia and currently playing in the country's top tier Serie A. The club plays home games at Unipol Domus.
Founded in 1920, the club has only won one scudetto and that was in the 1969/70 season when they were also the first team south of Rome to win the league. This was the period of the great Gigi Riva who is still Italy's all-time top goalscorer and was such a hero at Cagliari that the club retired his number when he finished his career. Cagliari's most successful European performance was in the 1993/94 UEFA Cup when they lost in the semifinals to Inter Milan. The club gained promotion back to Serie A at the end of the 2022/23 season after manager Claudio Ranieri helped them to success in the playoffs.
