This postseason bowl game has been played in Alabama since 2006, originally at Legion Field and since 2021 at Protective Stadium. The game has tie-ins with the SEC and the American, but if either of these conferences cannot send a team, they will be replaced by a team from Conference USA or the Mid-American Conference.
