Bayonne was founded in September 1904 by recently-dismissed members of a local rowing club. Having come together as the result of one dispute, the new team sought to avoid any further such arguments, and so formed the club without appointing an official president.
In 1913, Bayonne became French as well as Basque champions. The club won the French championship again in 1934 and in 1943, and reached the final again in 1944, losing to USA Perpignan. The Basque side would not reach another top-flight final until 1982, when it was defeated by the all-conquering Béziers side of the 1970's and 1980's.
More recently, Bayonne has often moved between the top tier of French rugby (now known as the Top 14) and the second division (Pro D2). The team was most recently promoted to the Top 14 at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The usual efficiency getting to ground and around the stadium. Eats and drinks accessible too. all good. Sadly as Munster supporters we seem to have lost the art of singing our songs before and during the game to help create and maintain an atmosphere. The slow dirge of "Munster, Munster.." is dreadful. SUAF, Zombie, The Fields are great but seems fewer are prepared to sing them collectively. There was a time when the place used be a bear pit for visiting teams. Less so now. Perhaps the Choir could lend a hand......in addition to their polite entertainment ? One reply I received when discussing it with a supporter in the ground was that it was better not to change as it would then become like a soccer match!
