Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH - more commonly known as Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Bayer Leverkusen, or just Leverkusen - is a professional football club based in Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. They currently compete in the Bundesliga and play home matches at the BayArena in Leverkusen.
Founded in 1904 by staff from a pharmaceutical company called Bayer AG, the club is part of a wider sports club consisting of athletics, basketball, handball, and gymnastics teams; a set-up that is common in Germany. In 1999, the football club became a separate entity. The club was first promoted to the German top league Bundesliga in 1979 and they have remained there ever since. In 2023-24, the club went on an incredible unbeaten run of 51 consecutive games; a European record that took them to their first Bundesliga title and their second DFB Pokal.
