The team was founded in 1973, known at the time as Solihull FC. In 1989, when Aston Villa reached out to ask for help in forming a women's team, the club changed their name to the Villa Aztecs and became officially affiliated with the men's team.
In 1996, they adopted the Aston Villa name fully, becoming Aston Villa Ladies; this was changed to Women in 2019.
Villa won the first trophy in their history, the Women's Premier League Cup, in 2013.
