Last year’s US Women’s Open was forced to delay until December and play behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For 2021, this iconic event on the women’s golf tour will return to a more familiar slot in the calendar, scheduled for 3-6 June 2021.
The competition will take place on the Lake Course of the Olympic Club in San Francisco. Known as “the best in the west,” the course sits nestled in the hillside, showcasing forest-lined fairways and spectacular views over the city. The venue has also held the PGA Tour Championship twice and the men’s US Open on 5 occasions, most recently in 2012. It has also been confirmed as the host of the 2028 PGA Championship and the 2032 Ryder Cup.

A Lim Kim of South Korea is the US Women’s Open defending champion, after she dramatically won last year’s contest in what was her first appearance in a major. Kim was 5 shots off the lead heading into the final round, but she birdied her final 3 holes to secure a 1-shot victory over Jin Young Ko and Amy Olson. In doing so, she became the 7th ever player to make up a 5-shot deficit in the final round to win the US Women’s Open – such a feat had not been accomplished since Annika Sorenstam did it in 1995. It also marked the 9th time in 13 years that the event has been won by a Korean competitor since Inbee Park’s first victory in 2008.
The US Women’s Open was first established in 1946 and was recognised as a major by the LPGA upon its foundation 4 years later, making it the oldest of the 5 majors in women’s golf, which also include the Women’s PGA Championship, Women’s British Open, ANA Inspiration, and Evian Championship.
With a purse of $5.5 million – of which $1 million goes to the winner – the US Women’s Open has the highest prize fund of any women’s golf event. It attracts the game’s best players from around the world so you can expect some top-class golf on show.
