After almost three weeks of action, the World Darts Championship will come to a close tonight in scintillating style as 17-year-old Luke Littler battles World Number 3 Michael Van Gerwen. For Van Gerwen, the Final presents an opportunity to secure a fourth world title, cementing his place among the greatest players of all-time. Littler, on the other hand, is looking to win his first World Darts Championship, going one better than 2024 when he shocked the world with his talent before falling to Luke Humphries at the final hurdle. Though he’s won 10 PDC titles since his breakthrough last year, earning more than £1 million in the process, victory tonight (3 Jan) would be The Nuke’s greatest achievement yet, gaining him a place in history as the youngest world title winner since the competition began.
While Littler Mania has certainly helped boost interest in darts – TV viewing figures have soared since he emerged on the scene – another exciting World Darts Championship has also encouraged darts’ continuing rise. Featuring a host of tense battles and underdog victories, this season’s tournament saw a record number of seeded players exit the competition in its early stages, proving that darts can be one of the most dramatic sports around. Fortunately for fans new and old, the action doesn’t stop with the crowning of a new World Darts Champion. In fact, 2025 is shaping up to be one of the sport’s most explosive years to date.
Among 2025’s darting highlights will be mainstays like the Masters (30 Jan – 2 Feb) in Milton Keynes, and the much-loved World Matchplay (19–27 Jul) at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens. Team events like the World Cup of Darts (12–15 Jun), and the globetrotting World Series of Darts (Jan–Sep) will also be popular with fans. Last, but not least, the Premier League returns in 2025 as 8 more stars travel across the UK and Europe for 17 weeks of high-stakes darts in front of some of the sport’s most passionate crowds.
