The tournament will be held from 11-17 April in its usual post-Masters slot on the calendar, so if you’re eager for a fix of top-class golf and golfing tradition following one of the sport’s most prestigious competitions, look no further.
Held at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, the RBC Heritage lives up to its name. Historical evidence suggests golf was first introduced to the United States from Scotland in 1786 when a shipment of “featheries” – historic leather golf balls – and “golfer sticks” was delivered to South Carolina and Georgia, and the RBC Heritage was created to pay tribute to that origin.
The tournament, which began life in 1969, promises as much spectacle off the course as on it. It opens each year with a parade featuring the reigning champion, who is presented with a Captain of Gentlemen Golfers plaque. The champion then re-enacts an 18th-century Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews tradition, in which they hit a featherie into the Calibogue Sound waterway in time with a cannon shot using an authentic hickory golf club.
In 2022, the reigning champion is Stewart Cink. The 48-year-old – whose career highlights including winning The Open in 2009, winning 4 Presidents Cups for the United States, and representing his country 5 times in the Ryder Cup (winning in 2008) – claimed his 3rd victory in this competition in 2021, 17 years on from his last win at Harbour Town.
General admission Grounds tickets cost $50 for the practice rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday and $100 for each competition round Thursday-Sunday, while a weekly pass valid Tuesday-Sunday represents a significant saving at $225.
There are also a variety of hospitality options, starting at $175 per day for Doc’s BBQ Club at 15. Purchases made by 30 November will also be entered into a competition for the chance of winning 2 nights of deluxe accommodation, hospitality tickets, and access to the Closing Ceremonies including a meet-and-greet with the winner, so grab your tickets now!
