The RBC Heritage, commonly referred to as the Heritage Classic, is an annual PGA Tour event, typically played in mid-April, a week after The Masters. It was inaugurated in 1969, and since then, it has been contested at the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
The competition lives up to its name, honouring golfing heritage. In a re-enactment of an 18th-century Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews tradition, the event is kicked off with a parade in which the past champion is given a Captain of Gentlemen Golfers plaque and uses an authentic hickory club to hit a traditional leather golf ball into the Calibogue Sound waterway in unison with a cannon shot.
