Reserved only for an elite field of 60 players – the top-performing players throughout the season in the Race to the CME Globe standings – the CME Group Tour Championship is comparable to the majors in terms of both the exceptional standard of play on show and the prize money up for grabs. In fact, it actually surpasses the women’s majors on the latter front. The event boasts an $11 million prize purse, of which $4 million goes to the victor – the largest winner’s share in women’s golf – and offers a further $1 million bonus to the player who wins the Race to the CME Globe.
Nelly Korda is the player to beat on that front. We’re two-thirds of the way through the season and the American holds a commanding lead atop the standings with 3,318.944 Globe points, putting her well ahead of closest rival Ayaka Furue sitting on 2,081.702. The 26-year-old has won an astonishing 6 tournaments thus far in 2024, including a sensational run of 5 consecutive starting victories, the last of which was her 2nd major title with a win at the Chevron Championship. Such a feat has only been achieved by 2 other players in LPGA history – Nancy Lopez in 1978, and Annika Sorenstam in 2004-05.
Australia’s Hannah Green – who sits 3rd in the standings – is the only other LPGA Tour player so far this season to win more than once, having won the HSBC Women's World Championship in March and the JM Eagle LA Championship in April.
The defending champion in the event itself – which this year takes place from 21-24 November in its usual home in Naples, Florida – is Amy Yang, who set a tournament-record score of 27-under par in the 2023 event. Lydia Ko and Jin Young Ko, who have each won the CME Group Tour Championship twice, are likely to be in the mix as well.
If you’d like to witness this top-class tussle in person, general admission Grounds tickets start at USD $40 for adults aged 18 and over (children aged 17 and under may enter for free). Premium tickets inclusive of food and beverages and hospitality access start at $115.
