Fans will be hoping for a similarly thrilling competition next year after the 2023 edition ended in a dramatic playoff between Matt Fitzpatrick and 2022 RBC Heritage winner Jordan Spieth, with the former coming out on top.
What is the RBC Heritage?
The RBC Heritage is a staple of the PGA Tour calendar and has been ever since it was inaugurated in 1969. It has been known for much of its life as the Heritage Classic, or even simply The Heritage for short.
The tournament honours golfing heritage and kicks off with a re-enactment of an 18th-century Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews tradition – a parade in which a former champion is gifted a Captain of Gentlemen Golfers plaque before hitting a traditional leather golf ball into the Calibogue Sound waterway with an authentic hickory club, in unison with a cannon shot.
Past winners over the years include Arnold Palmer, who won the inaugural event, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, and Sir Nick Faldo. Two-time Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III has won the competition a record 5 times.
It will be 1 of 8 “signature events” on the PGA Tour next season; this means it will offer an astonishing $20 million in prize money, and it will be contested by a smaller, more exclusive field comprised of the world’s best players.
When and where is the RBC Heritage?
The 2024 RBC Heritage takes place from 15-21 April, the week after The Masters. It is held at its usual home, Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina.
The course was designed by renowned golf architect Pete Dye in collaboration with golf legend Jack Nicklaus; it was the first course the Golden Bear ever designed.
