WWE is a truly global phenomenon, and while the company regularly tours the world, it is rare for the organization to hold any of its pay-per-views (also known as Premium Live Events) outside North America. This is why, when Clash of the Castle took place in Cardiff, Wales in 2022, UK and European wrestling fans flocked to the Welsh capital for a sold-out show like no other.
Clash at the Castle was not only WWE’s first major stadium show in the UK since SummerSlam 1992, but also the company’s first UK PPV since Insurrextion in 2003. However, after years of waiting for one major WWE show on British shores, like London buses, a second has arrived in quick succession.
Earlier this year, to the surprise and joy of WWE fans in Europe, the world’s biggest wrestling promotion announced that they would be returning to the UK in 2023 – this time, to London, for Money in the Bank. One of WWE’s “Big 5” PPVs, Money in the Bank has taken place each year since 2010. The event is based around the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, which was originally contested at WrestleMania, before being moved to headline the PPV of its own name.
Known for its drama and high-flying action, Money in the Bank is by far the most high-profile WWE event to be staged outside North America for decades. Winners of the Money in the Bank Ladder Match earn a shot at a championship of their choosing, and the match has helped propel the likes of Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, and Seth Rollins to become World Champions. Away from the ladder match, the PPV has also been home to some of WWE’s most historic moments, including CM Punk’s hometown win over WWE Champion John Cena in 2011.
In 2023, The O2 Arena will be the backdrop for Money in the Bank, where a raucous, wrestling-loving crowd is sure to get behind Scotland’s Drew McIntyre, Ireland’s Sheamus, and the rest of WWE’s famous, talented roster. At present, tickets for the PPV can be purchased as part of a combo with Friday Night SmackDown, which will also take place at The O2 on 30 June. Many seats have been snapped up already, but both official and resale options remain available. For fans hoping to attend just one night of wrestling, single show tickets are likely to be released soon (depending on availability).
