The World Snooker Championship is one of snooker’s oldest and most beloved competitions. Played since 1927, the tournament is steeped in history and has become appointment viewing each year for snooker fans around the world. From 15-time winner Joe Davis to modern-day masters like Stephen Hendry, the competition has defined greatness in snooker for decades and remains the ultimate prize on the World Snooker Tour.
Nearly a year ago now, Ronnie O’Sullivan won his seventh World Snooker Championship, defeating Judd Trump in the Final at the hallowed Crucible Theatre. In 2023, the Rocket will aim to add yet another Crucible title to his name, becoming just the third person to win 8 World Championships in the process.
Of course, it won’t be easy. In O’Sullivan’s way stand a host of snooker’s very best players – Mark Selby, Mark Allen, Judd Trump, and Mark Williams will step up to the table in other areas of the draw, and could well face the 2022 champion in the latter stages of the tournament.
This year, the World Snooker Championship will take place between 15 April – 1 May. It will be the 55th successive year that the tournament has been held at the Crucible, and the intimate venue continues to add an extra level of significance to the historic championship. It’s also one of the best places in the world to watch sport as no seat in the entire auditorium is more than 22 meters from the action.

In 2022, more than 500 million people watched the World Championship, with even more expected to tune in this year. The event is one of the hottest tickets in UK sport, however, while most sessions are now sold out, a good selection of seats remain available through resellers and secondary ticket sites. Fans will have to be quick though as tournament play begins tomorrow and will culminate with the Final on 1 May.
For snooker fans, the waiting is nearly over. In just over 2 weeks' time, another great name (maybe for the eighth time in Ronnie O’Sullivan’s case) will be etched into history as a World Snooker Championship winner.
