The Ice Hockey World Championship is an annual international men's ice hockey tournament organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). First officially held at the 1920 Summer Olympics, it is the sport's highest-profile annual international tournament. As the IIHF grew, more teams began to participate at the World Championships, so more pools (later renamed divisions) were introduced. The modern format for the World Championship features 16 teams in the championship group.
In 2022, the IIHF World Championship will be hosted by Finland from 13 -29 May with games split between the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki and the Tampere Deck Arena. Finland is one of the world’s most successful national ice hockey teams and a member of the so-called "Big Six" - the unofficial group of the 6 greatest men's ice hockey nations - with Canada, United States, Russia, Sweden, and Czechia. Finland won the world championship title in 1995, 2022, and 2019.
Group A matches will be played in Helsinki at the Hartwall Arena and Group B matches (featuring the hosts) will be played in Tampere at the new Tampere Deck Arena. Quarterfinals 1 and 3 will take place in Helsinki and quarterfinals 2 and 4, both semifinals, the third-place playoff, and the final will be held in Tampere.
Tickets can be purchased covering all matches on one day at one of the venues. Tickets for individual games are due to go on sale in February. You can also purchase tickets for the final round (including quarterfinals, semifinals, third-place playoff, and final) or for the final weekend (including semifinals, third-place playoff, and final). Prices start from just €15 (£12.52), and there are even incredible VIP experiences available for as little as €197.94 (£165.21) for those wishing to make their day out extra special!
