The Ice Hockey World Championship is an annual international men's ice hockey tournament organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
First officially held at the 1920 Summer Olympics – though held as an individual event in 1930 – the event is the sport's highest-profile annual international tournament. The IIHF was created in 1908 while the European Championships, which came before the World Championships, were first held in 1910. As the IIHF grew, more teams began participating at the World Championships, introducing more pools or divisions. The modern format for the World Championship features 16 teams in the championship group.
The 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will take place from 15-31 May 2026 in Switzerland.
