The American already made history in 2024 by becoming the first player in this illustrious competition’s 50-year history to successfully defend his title, a feat even Jack Nicklaus – who won 3 of the first 5 editions of the tournament – could not match. Scheffler, who also won his second title at The Masters earlier this year, edged out a chasing pack comprised of Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, and Xander Schauffele by a single stroke. The 28-year-old had started the final round 5 shots off the lead, but a blemish-free Sunday in which he carded an 8-under 64 saw him through to his historic victory.
His back-to-back wins have seen him take home the winner's share (USD $4.5 million) of golf’s biggest prize purse, a princely $25 million – more even than the actual majors themselves. As such a prestigious and lucrative event, The Players Championship routinely boasts fields packed to the brim with the world’s best players. First established in 1974, The Players is the PGA Tour’s flagship event and a key competition for the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) system, with 80 points dished out to the winner. Only the majors, where winners receive 100 OWGR points, are more valuable.
For spectators, what this means is attendees are treated to watching one of the strongest fields in golf, a chance to see many of the game’s biggest and best all in one place, at an iconic course in TPC Sawgrass. Adult tickets start from $32, and there are a wide range of premium ticket options too, covering a wide range of budgets.
