The Credit One Charleston Open is one of the WTA tour’s boldest and brightest stops, even before any players set foot on the courts of the Family Circle Tennis Center. Not only is the event the largest women’s-only tennis tournament in the USA, it was also the first female tennis competition to both award USD $100,000 in prize money and be broadcast on network television. It is also played on a unique green clay surface, which adds to its iconic reputation, and with news of the early player commitments the tournament has secured, excitement will be even greater than usual ahead of the 2024 edition, which is set to take place between 30 March and 7 April.
First up, reigning Charleston champion, multiple Grand Slam finalist, and all-round fan favourite Ons Jabeur. The Tunisian is a maverick on the court and a delight off it, and will no doubt get the South Carolina crowds off their seat again in 2024, as she looks to defend her title and fight her way back into the top-5 of the WTA singles rankings at the beginning of the season.
Among those standing in her way will be the woman she defeated in the 2023 final, Belinda Bencic. Benic also has a strong record in Charleston: she won the 2022 event, overcoming Jabeur in that year’s final, before the Tunisian got her revenge a year later. Bencic currently sits inside the WTA top-20 and reached the fourth round of both the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season, so she is likely to be a formidable competitor again in 2024.
Another former champion, Madison Keys, will also appear at the 2024 Credit One Charleston Open. The American lost to Angelique Kerber in the 2015 final, before winning the trophy for herself in 2019. Having been on the comeback trail in recent years, Keys reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2023, and sits just outside the WTA top-10 – so expect a strong showing from her in South Carolina.

Representing the USA alongside Keys will be top-5 star Jessica Pegula. Although she boasts no major pedigree in the Holy City, Pegula has plenty else going for her: between 2021 and 2023 the American has reached 6 Grand Slam quarterfinals, she has won 2 WTA 1000 titles, and recently reached the final of the 2023 WTA Finals. How’s that for a résumé?
With a promising field of players already assembled, and more big names sure to be announced in the coming weeks, fans will be keen to secure a seat ahead of the 2024 tournament. General Admission single session tickets start at USD $13, and reserved seating tickets at $31, in the Terrace Seating sections.
