It is a fantastic time to be a watcher of Welsh rugby. As well as holding the coveted Six Nations trophy, Wayne Pivac’s side boasts several British & Irish Lions in the squad for the ongoing tour, and a tantalising set of Autumn Internationals fixtures lie in wait later in the year. The one thing that has been missing is the chance to grab a seat and watch on from the stands. With news that 3 games in Cardiff against Canada and Argentina are now on sale, that void has now been filled!
First up will be Canada. The Canucks may not be a well-known test rugby side, but with ex-Wales internationals Kingsley Jones and Rob Howley at the helm across the Atlantic, and some recent World Cup experience in their back pocket – albeit in the pool stages - this team has to be taken seriously.
The match is on 3 July, and will mark the first time in over a year that fans will be heard inside the Principality Stadium. As is the case for all 3 of these Summer Series games, spectator capacities will be limited in line with Coronavirus restrictions, but this won’t stop the homecoming celebration! Standard match tickets start at £10 in Category B for children under 17, with the most expensive adult tickets only £30, in Category A. If you’re after a more comprehensive experience, or fancy catching the coach from Swansea, accommodation and travel packages are both on sale, starting from only £269 and £79, respectively.
Just a week later, on 10 July, the Welsh squad will have a bigger challenge, as Argentina visits the Principality for the first of 2 back-to-back matches. Wales’ record against the Pumas is good – if they win in front of their home fans on 10 July, it will be their 5th victory on the trot against the visitors – but only 8 months ago this Argentinian group beat the mighty New Zealand in the Rugby Championship. Wales’ task will not be easy, even when backed by a raucous Cardiff crowd!
Even though this is a fantastic clash, worthy of any World Cup knock-out stage, the Welsh Rugby Union’s price freeze means fans are able to enjoy the action for a bargain price. Standard match tickets in Category B are on sale from £25 for adults, and £12.50 for children, and only £35 and £17.50 respectively in Category A. Seats are the same price for the second of the 2 Argentinian matches, on 17 July. This latter fixture will be a fantastic occasion to settle any scores from the week before, and it will be the perfect chance for some fringe players – likely to be selected on both sides as is customary in the summer – to leave a lasting impression.
Accommodation packages are currently on sale for these 2 games, also priced the same for both fixtures. Match tickets and an overnight stay for 2 people in Cardiff’s Royal Hotel – brilliantly located for both rugby and revelry - would only set you back a total of £398, whilst a group of 6 could enjoy it for £1,194. If you’ve a tighter schedule, or just don’t fancy finding somewhere to park, Match Ticket and Coach Packages start from £89 per person. Regardless of how you choose to enjoy the rugby, just make sure you’re there - these 3 games will be well worth the wait!
