Choosing Which BBL Game to Attend
The Big Bash League features 44 games in total: 40 in the regular season and 4 in the playoffs. Eight teams currently play in the league, with each team taking part in a minimum of 10 games each. One of the most popular ways to choose which BBL game, or games, to attend, is to find out where and when your favorite team are playing. Every franchise plays 5 home games and 5 away games in the regular season, so you’ll have plenty of chances to catch your team in their home city or on the road. Picking a team to follow can also be one of the best ways for new fans to get involved with a league or sport, so if you don’t have a favorite franchise already, maybe consider a team known for having lots of famous faces like Melbourne Stars, a multi-time champion like Perth Scorchers, or an underdog yet to win the competition like Hobart Hurricanes.
BBL matches take place across 11 stadiums in 9 Australian cities, which means that location may also be a key factor when deciding on a game to attend. As there can be such large distances between cities in Australia, you might want to research teams that play close to where you live, or are staying, and find out how many games you might be able to attend. For instance, major locations like Sydney host as many as 8 games across 2 venues during the regular season, while smaller cities like Geelong and Coffs Harbor only host 1 match each.
Still, even if you can’t find any action nearby, a BBL game can also be a great excuse for a weekend break in a new city, and games take place in some of Australia’s top tourist destinations. It’s also worth noting that all BBL teams play their home games on the Australian mainland apart from Hobart Hurricanes, who are based in Tasmania.

When Do BBL Tickets Go on Sale?
Regular season BBL tickets generally go on general sale between June – August, around 4–6 months before the season is set to begin. Memberships and pre-sale tickets may be available earlier, depending on the team you follow or the game you wish to attend. To have the best chance of securing early tickets, register for updates with Cricket Australia and your favourite BBL team.
Ticket availability is generally good for most BBL games, but rivalry matches, such as Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder, as well as all playoff games (tickets for which will become available once the regular season ends), can sell out quickly. Similarly, if you are hoping to secure specific seats, especially those with premium views, it’s best to purchase your tickets as soon as they are released.
If you know which BBL game you wish to attend, Koobit can inform you when tickets go on sale. For on-sale notifications, just save an event to your interests on Koobit and you will receive an email when tickets are released.
Where to Buy BBL Tickets
Primary Sellers
Depending on the team, BBL tickets are available from one of two primary sellers: Ticketek or Ticketmaster. In general, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Thunder, and Melbourne Renegades use Ticketmaster, while all other teams use Ticketek. There is no special membership required to buy tickets (aside from a Ticketmaster or Ticketek account), but you may receive early access or pre-sale benefits if you have a team membership, or pre-register with a team or Cricket Australia. Please note, tickets can be purchased via the web, phone, or at the gate on match day.
Resellers
A small selection of reseller tickets is often available for BBL games. Resale prices fluctuate, and fees can sometimes lead to inflated costs, but equally, reseller tickets can sometimes provide great value for popular matches, especially at short notice.
Popular BBL Resellers:

Types of BBL Tickets Available
BBL matches are held at some of Australia’s most popular cricket venues. These stadiums are generally circular or oval-shaped, with various seating levels surrounding the pitch.
Here’s a closer look at the most common BBL ticket types:
Reserved Seating
Reserved seats at BBL games generally cover the majority of the venue and can be found on all levels. These tickets provide you with a specific reserved seat, meaning you can come and go as you wish. While they will sometimes be listed as Reserve or Reserved Seating, reserved seats may also be listed by their location in the stadium, such as Lower Tier, Upper Tier, or North East Stand, as well as categories like Silver, Gold, and Premium.
Pros: Choose and reserve your preferred seats before you arrive
Cons: More expensive than GA tickets
Prices: Around AUD $30–$60 for adults

General Admission
General Admission tickets are a great budget option for BBL fans, and offer unreserved seats (or sometimes standing areas or mounds) from which to watch the game. GA tickets are generally contained to specific sections or areas of the stadium in which you can choose any unoccupied seat or space. While they are often listed as General Admission, these tickets may also be listed as GA, Unreserved Seating, Hill or Mound.
Pros: Often the cheapest tickets at a BBL game
Cons: Unreserved seating means you might need to arrive early and can’t guarantee where you sit
Prices: Around AUD $22–$30 for adults

VIP
If you’re looking for a fun way to make your time at a BBL game even more memorable, then VIP tickets might be the best option. Each team offers different experiences, but most VIP tickets include premium seats, access to private areas or lounges, entertainment, and food/beverage perks. Popular VIP tickets include the Tinnies Terrace at the MCG and the Renegades Lounge at Marvel Stadium.
Pros: Watch the game in style
Cons: Pricey compared to other tickets
Prices: Between AUD $90–$250 for adults

BBL Ticket Prices
Compared to other major sports events, the Big Bash League is a very reasonably priced competition with tickets available to suit all budgets. As games mostly take place at venues with large capacities, as long as you buy early, you’re likely to find ideal seats at a suitable price.
BBL tickets for adults start at around AUD $22 for unreserved General Admission seats, and can be available for as little as $5 for children. At the other end of the spectrum, BBL’s most expensive offering is VIP experiences, and these can cost up to $250.
Dynamic pricing is not usually employed by official suppliers for BBL games, meaning fans can enjoy fixed prices that don’t rise suddenly. Depending on the supplier, you may be required to pay a small service fee with your purchase, usually around $6–$7 per order. Alternatively, tickets bought from resellers have prices set by the seller (which may be higher or lower than face value) and generally have larger fees attached.
Finding Cheap Tickets
Cheap tickets are never too difficult to find for BBL games, as long as you have a plan. In almost all situations, the best way to find great value seats is to buy early. Tickets for the Big Bash go on sale between June – August, with early bird prices sometimes in place until mid-November. Early bird tickets are some of the cheapest in the game, so by buying early, you’ll be securing yourself the best deal before prices rise closer to the tournament.
SImilarly, knowing the best ticket types to choose can help keep prices down. At BBL games, General Admission tickets are almost always cheapest, sometimes costing as little as AUD $22 for adults. These tickets not only provide you with entry to the ground, but generally also give you a choice from all unoccupied seats in a certain section. Mound or Hill tickets can offer comparable value and provide entry to a raised section of the ground where you can sit or stand.

Ticket Delivery
All BBL tickets are issued as mobile tickets or print at home tickets. These can be shared with other members of your party. You can usually choose your preferred delivery option upon checkout.
Planning Parking & Travel for a BBL Game
BBL matches are held at some of Australia’s top cricket venues and parking is generally easy to find. Most venues offer official parking near to the ground, with information available on either the team or venue website. Official parking usually costs between AUD $10 – $40 and pre-booking online is highly recommended. Alternatively, public and private parking options can be found on sites like Parkopedia.
If you are attending a game in a major city like Sydney or Melbourne, you might want to think about taking public transport rather than a car. Public transport can work out quicker and cheaper than car travel, and you won’t have to worry about traffic congestion or parking. Most Australian cities have strong transport links across a selection of buses, trams, and trains. Each state also boasts a dedicated public transport website to help you with your travel.

Booking Accommodation When Attending a BBL Game
Like parking, accommodation for a BBL game should be fairly easy to come by considering the locations in which most games are played. For matches in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, and other major cities, a wide range of hotels, AirBnBs and other accommodation types will be available to suit all budgets. Hotels close to city centres or near the stadium will generally cost more, but if you’re looking to save money, try staying towards the outskirts of the city and use public transport to get to the venue on gameday. For games in smaller areas like Geelong and Coffs Harbor, accommodation can be more difficult to secure as there may be fewer options. In all cases, it’s best to book as early as possible. Websites like Booking.com even offer free cancellation for some properties, so you can book a room before you have tickets and cancel, free of charge, if you can no longer attend the match.
