Hobart Hurricanes have been part of the Big Bash League since its inaugural season in 2011–12. Famous players to have pulled on the team's purple jersey include Tim Paine, Stuart Broad, and Kumar Sangakkara.
Hobart Hurricanes are one of only 2 Big Bash franchises never to have won the tournament. They have, however, finished as runners-up twice. As the Hurricanes are based in the Tasmanian capital of Hobart, they are the only BBL side not located on the Australian mainland.
