The Cowboys are the football team of the University of Wyoming in Laramie. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference.
Wyoming play their home games at War Memorial Stadium, which has a capacity of 30,181.

The University of Wyoming has fielded a football team since 1894. Originally an Independent team, the Cowboys have competed in several different conferences in the program's history. After a few years in the Colorado Football Association, the team was a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference from 1909 to 1937. This period was followed by several decades in the Mountain States Conference, and then 36 years in the Western Athletic Conference. Since 1999, the Cowboys have played in the Mountain West Conference.
