The Wuhan Open is the largest all-women's tennis tournament in China. This annual event was founded in 2014 as part of a Chinese initiative to better promote tennis in China, and it was accompanied by impressive new facilities at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center.
The event is classified as a WTA 1000 event, ensuring the world's top female players will be in attendance. This is evidenced by the list of former champions, which includes Petra Kvitová, Venus Williams, Caroline Garcia, and Aryna Sabalenka.
After being absent from the calendar between 2020 and 2023, the event returned in 2024.
