The Winston-Salem Open is an outdoor hard court tournament held in North Carolina, USA. The tournament serves an important purpose in the tennis calendar, providing a vital warm-up for top male players immediately prior to the US Open.
Part of the ATP 250 tour since 2011, the Winston-Salem Open succeeded the now defunct New Haven tournament, but, beyond inheriting its place in the calendar, the Open made a largely clean break from the preceding event. The inaugural edition of the Winston-Salem Open was won by John Isner – a fitting first champion, as he was born just down the road, in Greensboro. It has since been won by players such as Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz.
