The Washington Mystics, also known simply as the Mystics, are a professional women's basketball team based in Washington DC. They play in the Eastern Conference of the Women's National Basketball Association and they play their home fixtures at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. They are affiliated with their NBA counterparts, the Washington Wizards.
Washington Mystics History
The Mystics were founded in 1998, joining the WNBA as an expansion franchise in its second season.
Despite the presence of star player Nikki McCray β who won gold medals with the United States at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games either side of winning the 1998 World Championships β the Mystics' first season ended with a disastrous 3-27 record.
Indeed, it was not until relatively recently that the Mystics began to taste success. Washington reached their first WNBA Semifinals in 2017, before going one better the following season to reach the WNBA Finals for the first time.
While they were unsuccessful in 2018, they found themselves back there again in 2019, defeating the Connecticut Suns in 5 games to earn their first championship title.
