The Keydets are the football team of the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the Southern Conference.
📜 VMI Keydets Football History
VMI first fielded a football team in 1873, but did not play a full season until 1891.
The Keydets competed in the Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Association from 1900 to 1906. In 1924, VMI joined the Southern Conference and remained there until 2002.
After a decade in the Big South Conference from 2003 to 2013, the Keydets rejoined the Southern Conference in 2014.
