When the XFL was led by Vince McMahon, there was no team based in Las Vegas. The league began play in 2020 but had to shut down operations after just 5 weeks due to the Covid-19 pandemic and financial difficulties.
After the XFL was bought by Dwayne Johnson's Alpha Acquico, the league confirmed that the Los Angeles market would be replaced by a team in Las Vegas. The Vipers announced their first head coach as Rod Woodson.
