The Miners are the football team of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the NCAA and play in the West Division of Conference USA (CUSA).
UTEP claims 2 conference titles, 1 in the Border Conference in 1956 and the other in the Western Athletic Conference in 2000. The program joined CUSA in 2005, reaching 4 bowl games since the move. Although the Miners have contested 14 bowl games in their history, they have not won a bowl since 1967. This drought is the longest among all the NCAA Division I FBS teams.
The Miners have a rivalry known as the "Battle of I-10" with New Mexico State, dating back to a first meeting in 1914.
Since 2018, the UTEP head coach has been Dana Dimel, a former offensive coordinator at Kansas State.
The Miners play their home games at the Sun Bowl.
