Since the tournamentโs inception in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1910, the US Menโs Clay Court Championship has been an ambassadorial event, and a leading light of the clay court tradition in the US. After several location changes and just under a century of thrilling clay court matches, the Championship merged with the River Oaks International Tennis Tournament in 2008, cementing the eventโs place on the international menโs tennis tour for years to come.
The tournamentsโ histories may have become intertwined over the last decade, but the US Menโs Clay Court Championship is still a tournament at the cutting edge; the inclusion of fashion shows and live internet streaming have both served to broaden the eventโs appeal, and the tournament's draw is known to give particular emphasis to promising young players. Importantly, it is also a tournament beloved by fans, with its current home at the River Oaks Country Club proving especially popular.
Today, it is the only ATP tournament held in the US to be played on clay.
