The city centre, East Town and the Historic Third Ward, are trendy central neighbourhoods overlooking Lake Michigan with an industrial urban twist. Keen tourists and party-goers will enjoy having some of the city’s coolest attractions and hottest bars and clubs at their doorstep when staying here.
While the historical Westown also offers some of Milwaukee’s best sightseeing and nightlife, it is even more well-known for its sports and cultural venues including Miller High Life Theater and Turner Hall.
If you want to hang with the cool kids of Milwaukee, kick off your boots in Bay View, which sits along the lake in the south of Downtown Milwaukee. It has buzzing bars, quaint cafes, vintage thrift and record stores, as well as a diverse platter of restaurants.
Alternatively, head to the Lower East Side, a neighbourly area located north of East Town known for its dive bars, brew pubs, and live music venues for a more edgy night out. This area also benefits from its proximity to scenic Veterans Park, where you can kayak and paddleboard.
To be even more at one with nature, head to Northpoint, which is sandwiched between the picturesque Milwaukee Riverwalk and Lake Michigan’s Bradford Beach. Located just a few kilometres from central Milwaukee, it would be ideal for families who want both the city and the outdoors on their doorstep.
Central Milwaukee can be navigated by taking the historic streetcar, but to explore its other areas, it’s best to do so by car or bike.
