To get the full Roanoke experience, stay in the city’s Downtown district. Not only are its popular landmarks and museums found here, but also its best shops, bars, and restaurants.

For a more relaxed and local-style experience, opt instead for one of the neighbouring cities, Salem or Cave Spring. Although largely residential, each of them has its fair share of cool cafes, fine restaurants, and even breweries.

There’s also a variety of quaint towns and communities surrounding the Roanoke Valley which offer peace and quiet amongst nature.

Nature-lovers will particularly enjoy the northern tip of Roanoke from which you can explore the Appalachian Trail, Tinker Creek Greenway, and Read Mountain Preserve.
