Lane Stadium is an outdoor American football stadium located in Blacksburg, Virginia. The stadium is on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and is the home ground of the Virginia Tech Hokies college football team.
📜 History
Lane Stadium opened in 1965, named in honour of Edward Hudson Lane, a Virginia Tech alumnus and booster whose educational foundation project raised over USD $3 million for the construction of the venue.
Several large renovation and expansion projects have been carried out on the stadium since its initial opening, with the spectator capacity almost doubling from its original 35,050.
The Virginia Tech Hokies are known for their passionate fanbase, and Lane Stadium was ranked #2 on ESPN's 2007 list of the "Top 10 Scariest Places to Play." The Hokies have one of the strongest home field advantages in college football.
At 2,057 feet (627 m) above sea level, Lane Stadium is one of the most elevated college football venues on the east coast.
