As well as Edinburg, McAllen, and Mission, you can consider staying in one of the surrounding cities including Harlingen, and Pharr.

Both Edinburg and McAllen have college campuses and a generally youthful population making them lively, fun, and friendly places to stay.

Between them and the surrounding cities of the Rio Grande Valley, there are excellent shopping opportunities, an exciting range of restaurants, and plenty of bustling bars to keep you entertained day and night.

If you prefer bigger and more diverse cities, opt for Austin or San Antonio. They may be located a couple of hours north of Edinburg, but it’s possible to take direct transport lines into the city to see sporting events or do a spot of sightseeing.

Alternatively, head to one of the resort towns along the southern Texas coast like South Padre Island where you can soak up the sun, drink margaritas, and see some exotic wildlife.
