JMA Wireless Dome is an multipurpose sports stadium located in Syracuse, New York, on the campus of Syracuse University. The stadium is the home ground of the Syracuse Orange college football, basketball, and lacrosse teams.
📜 History
The venue opened in 1980 under the name Carrier Dome. The original Syracuse football stadium had been built in 1907 and could only sit 26,000 people, with safe expansion impossible. The university chose to replace the old Archbold Stadium entirely, and after its demolition the Dome was constructed on the same site. The new stadium features a fibreglass inflatable roof to protect the interior from the harsh Syracuse winters.
The venue features the largest domed roof on any US college stadium, and is the biggest campus-based basketball arena in the country.
The JMA Wireless Dome changed its name in 2022 following a new naming rights deal between Syracuse University and local phone service provider JMA Wireless.
As well as hosting all Syracuse home football, basketball, and lacrosse games, the Dome has been used for NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, boxing contests, preseason NFL and NBA games, and even ice hockey.
