Downtown is the commercial, cultural, and historic hub of Lexington, making it the ideal place from which to explore the city and get to know it more personally. The best of the city’s shopping can be found here, along with its biggest nightlife and dining scenes.
To experience Lexington like a local, perhaps stay in Chevy Chase-Ashland Park, a family-friendly residential community. Whilst Downtown’s bars and restaurants are just a few minutes away, the neighbourhood itself is home to many enviable establishments.
Younger visitors may prefer to stay around the University of Kentucky campus where there are a few hip bars, global eateries, and regular sporting events filled with students.
As Kentucky is known for its horse-rearing, why not stay on an authentic horse farm in the Bluegrass region? As well as getting a closer look at Kentucky life and its equine roots, you can get stuck into farming and even learn to ride.
Although there are buses available, Lexington is a very walkable city, and so it’s easy to explore on foot. However, those staying in the Bluegrass region will need a car to get around.
