📍 Where To Stay

Newcastle city centre encompassing Central, Chinatown, Princes Square, Haymarket, and both Newcastle and Northumbria universities, is where the majority of hotels, shops, restaurants, and bars are located, making it ideal for those prioritising convenience. The nightlife here is also some of the hottest in the city, and those looking for a party will certainly find one.

Quayside is another nightlife hotspot, but during the days this area is all about the museums, galleries, and markets, which are frequented by the hipsters and artists of Newcastle.

Ouseburn is the cooler older brother of Quayside, known for its tall railway arches and old school converted factories which now house farm-to-table eateries, quirky bars, and live music venues. Stay here to experience the edgier side of the city.

If you’d prefer to experience the quieter and more refined side of Newcastle, then stay in Jesmond. Located a few kilometres north of the city centre, Jesmond is an upscale suburb with a number of popular pubs and restaurants, as well as a number of popular parks, including The Town Moor.

Newcastle is blessed with a very well connected Metro system that can take you from A to B in no time, so you don’t have to worry about staying as close to the centre as possible if you’d prefer not to.

About Gateshead International Stadium

Gateshead International Stadium, originally known as the Gateshead Youth Stadium, was built in 1955 and is a multi-purpose stadium located in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, England. It is the third-largest sports venue in Tyne and Wear and the only IAAF-standard athletics stadium in the North East.

The venue has played host to several notable competitions, including the British Grand Prix and the European Team Championships. The stadium is famous for its world records set by several athletes, including two by pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva and a tied 100 m sprint record by Asafa Powell in 2006.

As well as athletics, the stadium hosts numerous other sports and is home to several clubs, including Gateshead FC, Gateshead Storm Rugby Club, and Gateshead Angels Netball Club.

All of the Gateshead International Stadium accessible toilets are unisex. These toilets are larger than standard toilets.

Entrance

Talk to a member of staff at the stadium entrance if you are unable to wait in a queue for a period of time. They will organise priority entry for you as soon as the gates open.

Seating

Wheelchair positions are available in the South West Corner of the venue and include a free companion ticket. These positions will be allocated with 2 m social distancing from other parties. A shelter covers some of these positions from the elements but not all. Some of the positions are accessible via a ramp.

Ambulant disabled seating is available in the South Terrace with ramped access and one small step onto the row of seats. A free companion ticket is also available should you be unable to attend the event without assistance. This stand has no roof cover and is open to the elements.

Assistance Animals

Guide and Assistance Dogs are very welcome at the International Stadium.
