Brewery Arts, also known as the Brewery Arts Centre, is a multi-arts event venue in the centre of Kendal, Cumbria. Housed in a converted former brewery on Highgate, it brings together theatre, music, cinema, visual arts and creative learning under one roof.
The venue typically hosts live music gigs, touring theatre, comedy, dance, film screenings in its two-screen cinema, festivals such as Kendal Mountain Festival, free exhibitions and a wide range of workshops and courses for all ages. Its flexible Malt Room performance space can accommodate large standing crowds, while a raked theatre, cinemas, galleries, studios and bar-restaurant support varied programming throughout the year.
The Brewery building was transformed into an arts centre in the early 1970s, repurposing the old brewery site into a cultural hub. Since then it has evolved into a leading regional arts destination, continuing to serve Kendal and the wider Lake District as a lively, community-focused venue.
