If you want to be able to explore the island easily, stay in Newport. Located in the centre of the island, it’s easy to explore in every direction. As the county town of Isle of Wight, Newport also benefits from having many of the island’s best shops, restaurants, and bars.
For some family fun on the Isle of Wight, consider staying in Sandown instead. Located on the island’s east coast, this town boast a beautiful beach and entertaining pier that every age can enjoy. Plus, there’s plenty of other family-friendly attractions nearby including the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary and Dinosaur Isle.
Like Sandown, Shanklin is another seaside resort town on the east coast, but it benefits from being much quieter and more relaxed than its neighbour. This makes it ideal for those that want to spend quality time at a quaint British seaside without being bothered by too many children.
For a traditional seaside town with a modern influence, head to Ryde on the island’s north coast. While the seafront is still characterised by a traditional Victorian charm, the town’s independent shopping and cool restaurant scene give it a more fun and vibrant twist.
Of course, there’s also the option to swap the buzzing seaside towns for the calming and solitary countryside, which the Isle of Wight does really well. Head to the Hampstead Heritage Coast or the Isle of Wight Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for the best scenery.
