Chepstow Racecourse Events

Chepstow Racecourse hosts a range of Horse Racing 🏇 events throughout the year with flat racing in the spring and summer and jump (National Hunt) racing in the autumn and winter. One of the biggest meetings at the course is the Welsh Grand National which takes place in December.

Chepstow Racecourse is just 2 km from the centre of Chepstow and is easily reached by public transport including bus and rail services. Due to extensive road links and the parking available on site, car is also a popular way to reach the course. The racecourse is on the A466 Chepstow to Monmouth road, not far from the now toll-free Severn Bridge. From the M4 East (Junction 21) or M4 West (Junction 23), take the M48 and exit at Junction 2 (Chepstow).

🅿️ Parking

Ample parking is provided for Owners & Trainers, Annual Members, hospitality ticket holders, Grandstand & Paddock ticket holders, and Premier ticket holders in the main car park, across from the zebra crossing and main entrance.

Access to the Premier entrance is straight across from the zebra crossing from the main car park for Premier badge holders. Access to the Grandstand entrance is via the underpass from the main car park and through the turnstiles for Grandstand & Paddock badge holders.

There is designated disabled parking close to the main entrance.

🚍 Coach & Bus

A shuttle bus service provided by Newport Transport operates from Chepstow Train Station to the racecourse via the town's bus station. The service also operates from Newport Train Station direct to the racecourse.

Coach groups are welcome at the racecourse. On arrival, coaches will be directed to our allocated coach parking.

🚆 Train

Chepstow Train Station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the town centre. From here, you can take the shuttle bus to the racecourse or it is a 2.2 km (27 min) walk. The station has direct trains to Birmingham, Cardiff, Cheltenham Spa, Derby, Gloucester, Newport, and Nottingham. At Newport, connections are available for London (Paddington), Hereford, Shrewsbury, Crewe, Manchester, Swansea, and all parts of Wales, as well as for Bristol, Bath, Exeter, Salisbury, Portsmouth, and all parts of south and west England.

Chepstow Racecourse Hotels & Accommodation

Being a popular tourist destination, Bristol is one of the country’s pricier cities outside of London, and it’s home to some of the coolest luxury boutique hotels around. However, Bristol is also one of the country’s most popular student cities, and so you can always find cheap and cheerful options for food and accommodation if you’d prefer.

📍 Where To Stay

Formed by the Old City and Cabot Circus along the River Avon, Bristol city centre, is the city’s commercial shopping district. Here you’ll find the majority of the city’s top shops, restaurants, bars, and hotels. The area is expensive but offers the best of Bristol.

Harbourside, located immediately west of the centre, is a quieter and more quaint area for families to stay whilst still being super central. The waterfront location boasts its own cohort of cool bars and restaurants, and benefits from an exciting range of river-based family activities including paddle-boarding and rowing.

Alternatively, take your family to Clifton, a refined suburb on the edge of Bristol, which offers a typical English country vibe and lots of green space.

Wapping Wharf, on the bank opposite Harbourside, is like its cooler younger sister. Slightly less refined, slightly more edgy, and still very central – a popular choice for young professionals.

Immerse in the city’s cultural side on Stoke Croft and Gloucester Road, just north of central Bristol, where you’ll find its most alternative shops, bars, and people. Head here for an exciting and memorable night out; its raves do not disappoint.

Bristol is a real small city, making it really easy to explore on foot, although some of its hills can be a bit of a challenge. For those who’d prefer to take it easy, there are reliable public inner-city buses which run regularly.

📜 History

Serving as one of 3 major racecourses in Wales – along with Bangor-on-Dee and Ffos Las – Chepstow has held racing on site since its inaugural race meeting in 1926. Despite its popularity from the outset, the racecourse struggled and nearly closed within its first 10 years of holding racing due to unforeseen costs; fortunately, the gates remained open and we can still enjoy the fantastic course today. The course now hosts flat and jump racing, including the Welsh Grand National, as well as an array of entertaining music events.

Chepstow Racecourse offers tradition as well as modern facilities. Racedays offer tickets to cover entry into a specific enclosure, or racegoers can purchase access to a private box or a hospitality package which will often include a culinary experience as well as access to the most premium public enclosure on that day. Ticket prices for Chepstow Racecourse events vary considerably depending on the event, the type of ticket, and the seller. 🍔 Food & Drink

A range of different bars and food outlets will be available depending on how busy the fixture is likely to be. Outlets will offer beer, wine, spirits, champagne, and soft drinks. The food outlets will serve burgers, hot dogs, fish and chips, and a variety of other options.

Please note you cannot bring your own food and drink into the venue (unless it is a designated Bank Holiday Family Day) - bag searches will take place.

Barbecues are not allowed to be used at the racecourse.

No alcohol can be brought into the racecourse.

💂 Entry Gates

Typically, gates open 2 hours before the first race. For feature and festival fixtures, gates may open earlier.

There are 2 separate entrances. The Premier Entrance is used for Premier ticket holders only and is located directly opposite the pedestrian crossing outside the racecourse. The Grandstand & Paddock turnstiles are accessed through the underpass at the top end of the car park. All tickets may be used through this entrance. For racedays where there is 1 enclosure, access is through the Premier Enclosure.

On most racedays - other than Live After Racing nights or themes race nights with music - the racecourse, along with bars and food outlets, will close shortly after the last race.
